“When I paint the landscape, I am really painting my experience of being alive within a place.”
I paint in a small studio on the property where I live in Spring Valley, California—a place I have known since childhood. From my house I see the Southern California landscape every day: hints of ocean and desert, hills and sky, and a quality of light that is constantly shifting—sometimes pale yellow, sometimes russet, sometimes slate gray. I am interested in painting presence—what it is like to be fully attentive within a place.
